What an end to 2014 at Longnor, in terms of football. I couldn’t have felt prouder watching the U10 Boys play in the first round of the County Shield competition. Every member of the team put in more than 100% effort and it paid off threefold, as they were unbeaten in their three matches. Charlie E, our goalie, had a very energetic night saving some strong shots at goal. He pushed the ball passed the post and over the bar on several occasions, only being beaten by one sneaky goal! Will F, Oliver D and Fin C put up a good defence and made their presence felt in several important tackles. Aaron E, James F and Tom W made a real difference in midfield with some fantastic football, making strong tackles and showing excellent control of the ball. James and Tom played their best football ever, making some accurate passes and strong runs forward heading for goal. They both battled hard in the goal area to keep the ball in their possession and Tom successfully scored two goals, one from just outside the edge of the box. Zac C and Giles M also played their very best football and their skills shone through. The energy and strength they both displayed was amazing! Both boys covered an incredible area of the pitch, being aware when to drop back to defend or take the opportunity to head for goal. They both made some accurate shots at goal, but only Giles managed to put the ball in the net, despite Zac taking every opportunity to take possession of the ball. It has to be one of the best night’s football I have witnessed and the supporters felt moved to shout and cheer for the boys enthusiastically! Thank you boys for your tremendous effort and I look forward to the second round on February 11th 2015.
