On Wednesday the 4th, 9 girls from Eagles visited Church Stretton School for the South Shropshire Indoor athletics tournament. We went in to the competition assuming we wouldn’t do well. We were very wrong! There were 7 other schools competing so it was going to be a fierce competition! Here’s how we got on!
Speed Bounce
Speed bounce was one of the field activities, with Frankie and Alice were doing it along with many other schools. We each had thirty seconds and were allowed to have 2 attempts. Although it was tricky, everyone did amazing. Frankie got around forty five along with Alice achieving forty three! While doing speed bounce, you must have quick feet and keep persevering throughout. You have to land onto two feet otherwise it will be a no jump.
Chest pass
Another field activity was the chest pass. You have to throw a basketball as far as you can with a tape measure alongside. A sports ambassador would
observe where the ball bounced and record that as your score. Ava and Safiya took part in this, getting a high score and achieving well. Overall, everyone taking part did amazing!
Javelin
On javelin was Ava and Safiya. They had been practising hard for the last three days and were ready for anything. They had a few faulty throws, but they soon got the gist of things and started doing some really good throws. They were unsure about their scores but achieved everything they possibly could! Everyone was really impressed and proud of them.
Long Jump
Jess and Darcy participated in this specific activity and did amazing! Jess scored a 1 metre 50, Darcy got 1 metre 35! Both achieved well against very tough competition.
Vertical Jump
It was Pippa and Ella on vertical jump. They were so nervous because in the practices all the other contestants were jumping quite high. But they shouldn’t have worried because Pippa’s highest was 33cm and Ella’s highest was 39cm. They had the opportunity to jump twice to see if they could beat their first jump. They both did so well and everyone was very proud of them.
Sprint Races
Most of us took part in this: Ava, Ella, Frankie, Jess, Darcy and Alice. The people who got first place were: Ella, Frankie and Ava. Everyone else got second and all did astonishingly well. Every time you reached the end you had to bounce of a rebound board giving you a speed boost.
Relays
In the relays, it was so nerve – wracking. On the one-lap relay, our team was Wren, Jess, Ava and Pippa. They did extremely well and came 2nd! We all shouted and yelled our heads off cheering for them but that didn’t matter. We were very pleased and happy for them. On the two-lap relay our team was Ella, Frankie, Alice and Darcy. As we took our places, we felt nervy and anxious. We raced really well and comfortable won our heat!
The question is where did we place overall? The answer to that is, drumroll please…
FIRST PLACE!
We now go to the county finals in May at Shrewsbury Sports Village where we will represent South Shropshire area.
