This is such a fantastic achievement. Well done Henry. Here is his account:
I have now climbed the three highest mountains in the UK! On the 1 May 2022 I climbed the final one- Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.
At the beginning it was cloudy but not rainy, we started the walk early at five o clock in the morning, we left the house at midnight, but we wanted it to be a bit lighter before we started. I was extremely tired. When we did set off it was a bit drizzly but still fine. For the first bit of the hike, we walked alongside a river which was really nice. We reached the foot of the mountain things were still going steady, we looked up at the mountain before us, there were a lot of stairs. We were now in a valley the weather was starting to get a little wet. There were loads of steps ahead of us.
It had taken us ages to get to the top of the steps but once we did, we realised that the worst was yet to come, and by this time the weather was awful there were storm clouds, and it was chucking it down with rain and everyone was cold and wet, but we persevered. When we thought we were on flat ground we then saw a giant slope with jagged rocks and steep and dangerous drop offs. We started to climb it was very hard on our legs and once we got three quarters up, we saw this narrow path that had steep and slippery rocks that if you fell you would be dead.
Once we made it up the hardest part of our journey, dad checked the map on his phone and said we are close, so we carried on. By now the weather was really bad, there was a cold wind and lots of rain and we were in the clouds, so there was nothing to see. Then through the cloud I saw a pile of wet rocks then I saw a little stone structure and dad said that it was the top! Everyone started scrambling to get up there I was the first one there and when I made it, I yelled, “we did it!” Despite all the cold and torturous weather, we did it! The three biggest mountains in the United Kingdom and we were all proud!
