The life skills of independence, teamwork, responsibility, respect, confidence and communication underpin all the work we do at Longnor CE Primary School. These skills are embedded in thematic work and in the way children behave on a daily basis. We strive to develop confident, independent children who have the skills to lead a successful life.
PSHE is often taught through other subjects, such as healthy eating in science. However, specific PSHE lessons are planned for and use the PSHE Association resources. In EYFS, PSHE is taught through all activities and daily situations. Topics of relationships, living in the wider world and health and wellbeing are addressed through a thematic approach and are carefully incorporated into termly plans.
Through years one to six, we have designed, using the PSHE Association, a spiral curriculum which focuses on the three main strands: relationships, living in the wider world and health and wellbeing. There are opportunities to revisit and develop with repeated themes through the year:

PSHE lessons are weekly and provide regular opportunity to enhance personal development.
For Relationships and Sex Education, Longnor CE Primary School has adopted the Shropshire ‘Respect Yourself’ scheme of work which progressively develops knowledge and understanding from years one to six: Eat Better, Move More, Relationship and Sex Education.

Drug awareness is taught to the older children using the STAR (stop, think, act, reflect) program. The children in Year 5 and 6 get the opportunity to attend the Crucial Crew days in the summer term.
