Science lessons are engaging and inspiring. Practical lessons are designed to explore, investigate and interpret results. All children are given regular opportunities to work scientifically, developing:
- comparative and fair tests
- observations over time
- seeking patterns
- identify, group and classify.
Using the Plan assessments and plans to structure our sequences of learning, building upon prior knowledge and understanding. Children are encouraged to solve problems using their prior knowledge and to set up experiments to answer questions they often pose themselves. We use the outdoors as much as possible when teaching science, often teaching it through Forest School sessions. Throughout the year each child will be taught to plan a variety of experiment types, make predictions, carry them out in a fair way and evaluate them.
We have carefully thought about need to know knowledge and have mapped this across the school. Taking consideration as to why this and why now.
