At risk of sounding like a broken record, Alex Croft and myself are making a plea to the Longnor School community for engagement and help with volunteering with the School Circle. For those who are new to the school, School Circle is essentially a PTA but so much more, which is what makes us special.
We’re not a very big school with limitless resources, instead we are a small tight-knit friendly community of parents, grandparents, extended family, children and staff members who work effortlessly to raise vital funds through various events like the seasonal discos, Frost Fayre, Summer Fete, quiz nights, movie nights and the Duck Race to name a few, and in the background we also run other fundraisers like Bag2School, Pre-Loved Uniform and The 100 Club. Through these efforts and events we have always been able to raise a sustained amount of money to help fund the ‘fun’ and vital extras in school that contribute to what makes Longnor so special.
Sadly we have noticed a decline in engagement with School Circle, and whilst we appreciate that economically these past few years have been really hard, our steady number of core volunteers have dwindled. Alex and I step down from our roles in July this year, we will have completed 2 years in our positions and feel that it’s time for new members to take on the roles and breathe fresh ideas into the group. We would be grateful for individuals who are interested in taking the group on to get in touch for an informal chat and attend our regular meetings.
As per our Constitution, without named members in the positions of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, we cannot run a school PTA and therefore will not be able to plan and put on the enriching fundraisers that the children have enjoyed so much previously. Please help us and the school by stepping forward to take on these roles. Whilst Alex will be leaving the school in July, I will still be about to help as much as possible but cannot do it on a bare-bone team. Volunteering can count from as little as attending our regular meetings, to helping out on a slot for an hour during an event or owning and managing your own event in the school calendar.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message, if you have any questions about this please do get in touch.
