Friday 1st March
Good evening and Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! (Happy St David’s Day!)
School has been filled with singing and lots of extra-curricular activities this week. We’ve seen a lot of dedication to running at breaktimes in preparation for the Shrewsbury Half Marathon – this is fantastic to see. Well done, also, to the school netball team who came fourth in their tournament – it was a chilly morning and everyone played with great determination.
This week, in assembly, we have been thinking about our learning behaviours and have introduced the skill of ‘be responsible’. We’ve been thinking about how we can use resources to remain independent and stay focused upon our targets through challenging ourselves. You may see children starting to have stickers for our responsible octopus which is the responsible logo.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. All the best.

Message from School Circle
Thank you very much to everyone who was able to make the coffee and chat meeting last Friday, we had an incredible turn out and subsequently now have a healthy number of volunteers for the next few events planned as well as the continuation of School Circle.
We have decided moving forward that School Circle Meetings will now be held on a Friday afternoon before school pick up at 2.45pm in the staff room to enable everyone an opportunity to attend – Teams will still be available for those who require it but please let either myself or Alex Croft know so we can send the link out prior. The next planned meeting will be held on April 12th.
We had some really exciting new ideas proposed at the meeting on Friday for future events, including making our movie nights a regular seasonal occurrence, and holding a children’s talent show during our upcoming Summer Fete which we are hoping to combine with an old loved Longnor tradition of Longnor Fest. A Google poll will be sent out shortly to determine which date is more feasible in our busy schedules so that children aren’t missing out on these events.
In the meantime, please do continue to sign up to volunteer for the upcoming Easter Disco on Thursday 21st March, as well as the Duck Race on Sunday 19th May, and a date will be confirmed and shared with everyone for the planned Movie Night in April.
Thanks again for all your support and hard work in continuing raising funds for the school.

World Book Day
To celebrate World Book Day on 7th March we would love for children to create a 3D scene from their favourite book. For example, a scene created using Lego; a decorated cake; a junk model made from recycling… We would love for your child to be creative and have fun. Children should bring their model to school on the morning of 7th March to be shared with the school.
If children would like to come into school dressed as a favourite character, then that would be great. More importantly, please could they talk about books, share their favourite characters and come into school that day ready to share.
Children have placed their orders for their free World Book Day book and we will be distributing these next week.
School Choir
Our school choir have been practicing in their lunch times in preparation for the Much Wenlock Live Arts Festival. We have had confirmation from the organisers that everyone who has been learning the songs can perform. This is fantastic news as we don’t have to select and all that can manage to attend can represent our school.
Where: William Brookes School, The Edge Theatre
When: Sunday 10th March
Time: Starts at 10:15am, so we will need to meet at 9:45am in the foyer for a warm up
Dress: School uniform please
Admission is free.
There should be car parking available in the school car park.
Please confirm with the office if you are able to attend. They have been dedicated in practice so it would be fantastic to have a full choir to perform.
Many thanks.

Comic relief – 15th March 2024
We would like to celebrate Comic Relief on the 15th March of this year. If your child would like to come to school dressed in red and you are able to donate £1 for charity then that would be wonderful. We will also have a joke telling competition – clean jokes only please! Please prepare just one joke to share on the day.

Please save the date of Sunday 19th May for the annual Longnor Duck Race. More details to follow soon.

England U15 girls football match invite
Message from England School Football Association:
We are delighted to invite you to join us at The New Saints FC in Oswestry on Sunday 10th March, where the England U15 Schoolgirls will take on Wales U16 Schoolgirls in a friendly fixture. This will be the England schoolgirls’ only fixture on home soil this season before they fly to Ireland to play in the Bob Docherty Cup against the other home nations.
The fixture will kick off at 11am at the Park Hall Stadium in Oswestry. England Internationals such as Alessia Russo and Georgia Stanway have played for the England Schoolgirls so this is a great opportunity for your students to see the most talented female schools’ footballers England has to offer. We hope you will help us to create an unforgettable atmosphere to get behind our young England stars.
Adults are £5 and concessions are £2. Tickets can be purchased on the day and not in advance.

Possible expansion of our preschool
With the increased funding from the government for two year old placements, we are looking at expanding our Little Owls. Before we begin exploring options, we would like to know whether there is interest within our local community.
