Friday 21st June
Good evening,
What another jam-packed week we’ve had at Longnor!
We were really lucky to have a visit from Church Stretton Fire Fighters on Thursday. Little Owls were really excited as their project has been ‘people who help us’. It was really exciting hearing the siren and seeing the lights outside school. Thank you so much to the crew that managed to visit.
Year six went to Hereford cathedral on Thursday along with other year sixes from across the Diocese. I’ve heard that they all were amazed by how big the cathedral was especially when they were looking up whilst sat in their seats.
In assemblies this week, we’ve continued to think about the value of respect and how you should treat others the way that you would like to be treated. We thought about how our actions can build people up and support in a team.
Take care in the warm weather. Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs L. Edgerton
E-safety
In assembly this week, we’ve thought about how images and posts can be altered and could create fake news. We thought about how once photos are online, it is easy to download and alter, so to be careful what we post online. Here is the fake post that we looked at in our discussions:
If you would like further resources to look regarding online safety, please see the Project Evolve page for interesting activities for all age groups: click here.
Special Visitors
We had an exciting visit from a fire engine this week. Thanks to Church Stretton Fire Service for letting Little Owls explore the fire engine, and for entertaining the whole school with the lights and sirens.

Summer Fete – Sunday 14th July
It is that time of year again and with over a month to go, we are getting ready to organise the Longnor School Summer Fete which will be held 1pm – 4pm on Sunday 14th July.
With hopes that it will be a bigger and better event building on from last year, we do need help from parents, children and the wider Longnor School community members.
So far we have the following stalls/games planned for the fete:
Refreshments, BBQ, tuck stall, plant stall, teddy tombola stall, jolly jam jars stall, stocks game, splat the rat game, boat racing game, preloved uniforms stall, glitter tattoos stall, inflatables, raffles and a home section competition. We also have planned entertainment for the day from a local band and performances by the children.
To ensure that the day is a success, you help with any of the following?
- Volunteering on the day – we are asking for volunteers on a rotation basis to cover a stall or game for an hour only, older children are also very welcome to man a games stall
- Helping with the set up and take down
- Donating items for the raffle – we are running a general raffle which has always been very generously supported with gifts and prizes, a ‘Barrow of Booze’ raffle and a Teddy Tombola
- Making and donating Jolly Jam Jars
- Making cakes/bakes to donate for the refreshment stall
- Suggest and/or take on a new stall
- Manning the BBQ for an hour
If you are able to, please leave a message on the School Circle Whatsapp group with your availability or preference, a sign up sheet will be shared on there, as well as a copy left in reception if you are not on the WhatsApp group.
Thank you in advance for all your support with this, it is our last big School Circle event of the academic year and we would love to go all out hosting this event where we can celebrate the hard work that the children, staff, parents and wider Longnor school community have done in this year as well as encourage new parents to participate with School Circle.
Dates for the Diary
Sports day – Friday 28th June
Sports Day
Next Friday 28th June is our annual sports day.
The event will begin at 9.15am and will last for approximately 2 hours. Pupils will take part in a variety of team and individual races and activities.
Pupils will compete for one of the four school houses and we would like them to wear a t-shirt of the corresponding colour for the day.
Pupils have been told of their individual houses, and colours and house lists have been placed on the relevant Seesaw / tapestry pages.
Pupils can wear their PE kit with coloured shirt to school for the day. They may wish to pack a spare t-shirt in case they get too hot and sweaty in the morning.
Pupils will also require a drinks bottle, hat and sunscreen (hopefully!).
ParentPay Debt
As we approach the end of the academic year and with the Year 6 cohort leaving us, please can you ensure your ParentPay balances are cleared please. If you have any queries regarding this matter or if you have difficulty making a payment, please contact the school office to discuss this further.
Donations needed!
We are 3 weeks away from the summer fete and desperately need donations for the event! Please can you spare the following and send them in by Monday 8th July:
- Plants for the plant stall
- Jolly Jam Jars (see image below for example)
- Teddies/soft toys
- Unopened bottles of booze
- Raffle prizes
We had a few volunteers sign up already to help on the day, thank you very much to those who have done so, but we still have a few gaps so please see the sheet shared on the school circle WhatsApp if you are able to help. Alternatively please message Tina if you are not on the group.
Home Section
Details of the Home Section Competition will be shared early next week so please keep your eyes out for that, and we look forward to judging some amazing entries again this year!
