Friday 23rd February
Good evening,
We trust that you all have had a lovely week. In school, we have been very busy! All children have come back from half term really settled and have applied their resilience to challenges set in class, so well done Longnor!
Assemblies
This week we have been thinking about Shrove Tuesday (as lots of us enjoyed pancakes in half term) and the beginning of Lent. Rev. Laura shared with us that she thinks of Lent as a journey and preparing for Easter. Kestrel class have been looking for signs that Easter is on its way and spotting signs of spring.
We have also had assemblies based on e-safety and the importance of thinking about the online relationships that we create. We have used the resources on Childnet to support in assemblies. There are plenty of resources that you could use at home to help us to be SMART when online:
- Safe
- Meet
- Accepting
- Reliable
- Tell
- Be SMART with a heart
You can access the resources here: click here.
Half marathon challenge
Well done to everyone who has signed up for the Shrewsbury half marathon challenge. All children will be regularly starting to run a mile during the school day. Because of this, please could all children have a pair of trainers that they could wear to run in that stay in school each day.
Many thanks to those that were able to join the School Circle meeting earlier today. It was fantastic to see so many people in support of our school.
Have a lovely weekend.

World Book Day – 7th March 2024
We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on the 7th March. If children would like to come into school dressed as a favourite character, then that would be great. More importantly, please could they talk about books, share their favourite characters and come into school that day ready to share.
Comic relief – 15th March 2024
We would like to celebrate Comic Relief on the 15th March of this year. If your child would like to come to school dressed in red and you are able to donate £1 for charity then that would be wonderful. We will also have a joke telling competition – clean jokes only please! Please prepare just one joke to share on the day.
End of Day – March
It is March next week, so please complete your child’s end of day form for March as soon as possible. Many thanks.

E-Safety Awareness: Peppa Pig videos
We have heard, once again, of a young child clicking on Peppa Pig videos on YouTube which has taken them to imitation inappropriate videos. Please take care when using YouTube at home.
Netball Success
Well done to our school netball team who reached the final of their tournament on Tuesday. They have another tournament next week and have been practicing in lunch times, so we wish them the best of luck.
Puppy visit
One of our families would like to bring in a two week old puppy to show on Monday. If you do not want your child to be in contact with the puppy, then please let the office know.

The Easter Disco tickets are live on Parentpay – tickets are £6.00 per child to include a hot dog and drinks. KS1 (Little Owls and Kestrels class) 5.30pm-7pm, KS2 (Merlins and Eagles class) 7pm-8.30pm. Children from nursery joining us on the night must be accompanied by an adult.

Much Wenlock Live Arts Choir Competition
We are hoping to take a group of 20 children from Year 1-6 to compete at the Much Wenlock Live Arts festival on the morning of Sunday 10th March at William Brooks School.
A group of children have been practising every lunchtime this week. They are sounding fantastic and we are excited to take part in this school choir competition.
If your child has been practising with the school choir this week, we would be grateful if you could discuss whether you are able to attend as this will help us select the 20 children.
We will provide further information next week.
Thank you.
