Friday 31st January
Good evening,
We’ve had another busy week!
Eagle class had a brilliant day on Friday at their STEM glider workshop. They were given all the resources and had to carefully design the gliders before testing them. They even applied their mathematics to calculate the speed of the gliders. Well done Eagles!
Well done to the dodgeball team from Eagle class who competed at Church Stretton in the area competition. They worked really well together and all demonstrated respect for each other and the sport.
Thank you to Concord College for visiting on Wednesday to share their showcase of dances and festivals from around the world. We learnt about festivals in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It was fantastic to be able to ask questions about their culture.
We all hope that you have a lovely weekend. Please remember to sign up for a parents’ evening meeting slot in preparation for our meetings the week beginning the 10th February.
All the best.
Mrs L. Edgerton
Road Sweeping – 5th February
The council will be sweeping the road through Longnor at about 10am on Wednesday 5th February. Please make sure there are no vehicles parked on the road or in the laybys / bus stop during this time. If you are visiting the school, please park in the village hall car park. Many thanks.
Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon

After last year’s success, we are planning to participate in this year’s Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon on April 12th 2025 at the West Mid Showground.
The Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon gives children aged 4-11 the chance to complete their very own cumulative Half Marathon in a supportive, non-competitive environment. With a Half Marathon representing 13.1 miles, the challenge sees children complete the first 12 miles at school over the course of a term or half term, 1 mile at a time, before running the final 1.1 miles on event day in front of family and friends. The children are treated to a dedicated “full race” experience including race bibs, a marshalled route, music and a start and finish line gantry, allowing them to enjoy and experience the thrill of a big sporting event and to be cheered on as they complete the final leg of their challenge. They receive rewards as they progress through their mileage including a fantastic medal and t-shirt for their efforts. The event is licenced by England Athletics to ensure standards are that which would be expected for any Adults Half Marathon.
The final 1.1 mile event will take place on April 12th at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury. Parents will be responsible for taking their child(ren) to and from this event. Mrs Edgerton and Mr Helliker will also be there to greet you and cheer on the children.
The cost of participating in this event is £12 which includes rewards for each stage of the journey:
- After completion of mile 1: Colour my miles trainers chart.
- After completion of mile 6: Reward wristband.
- After completion of mile 12: Technical running t- shirt and bib number for race day.
- After mile 13.1 (Race Day) Finishers medal.

If you wish your child to be registered for this event, please give payment and consent on ParentPay by 10th February 2025. Thank you.

Parents Evening – book your appointment now
Our next Parents’ Evenings are taking place on February 10th and 12th.
We feel that it’s important that all parents/carers should meet with their child’s teacher to discuss progress and to answer any questions that you may have.
Our online Parents Evening booking system makes choosing appointment times with your child’s teacher quick and easy.
Simply visit the class appointment page (below) and select an available appointment time. You will be sent an email confirming your appointment.
(N.B. To ensure that our confirmation email doesn’t get spam filtered out, please add the email address ‘longnorschool@kiskadoo.com’ to your address book)
You are of course welcome to bring your children to the meetings, however night owls will be using the outside space and the study, so please could you be responsible for your children at all times and make sure they stay inside and away from these spaces. Perhaps they could bring a book or accompany you to the meeting. Thank you for your support.

Longnor Leap First Aider
We are planning to organise a Longnor Leap event on the 6th July of this year. To do this we will need to have qualified first aiders. We have approached St John’s ambulance, however they charge £25 per medic, per hour. Therefore, we need some support in order to proceed. Either we are looking for trained medics that can support the event, or financial sponsorship to cover this.
If you are able to help in any way, please contact the School Circle or school office. Many thanks.
