Thursday 23rd October

Good evening,

There is much to celebrate at Longnor this autumn term. Thank you to everyone for joining us at parents’ evening: it is lovely to share work and celebrate progress with you. We always appreciate having parents come into school, so please talk with the office if you could come in to help listen to readers or with trips/activities: we would need to complete a DBS check first, then we would be delighted to have your help in school.

Leadership at Longnor has excelled this term. Our teams have been busy and have already achieved much in just one term. Our assembly leaders have been running worship each day, school council have led whole school debates and made changes from pupil voice, the soul team ran their first online safety assembly this term, our eco-committee have led an eco-day today raising money for the Rainforest Alliance, our club leaders have been busy every lunchtime and our librarians have set up book club and challenges through school. It has been a busy term!

Congratulations to our achievers this week:

  • Khalil for a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Annie for brilliant listening in phonics.
  • Skye for being a supportive and encouraging friend.
  • Darcy and Flo for showing perseverance.
  • Emily for wonderful work in maths, English and geography this week.
  • Florence H for being a great friend at lunchtime.
  • Owen for a fantastic attitude towards work.
  • Rose for being a fantastic PALs partner.

Our handwriting heroes this week are Isla, Hunter and Richard.

Thank you to everyone who is helping at the school disco this evening. We all really value the time, energy and effort you give to run these lovely events for the community.

Have a lovely and safe half term break.

Mrs L. Edgerton

Online safety

SOUL team led an assembly on privacy and security this week. They thought about information that they are happy to share online and which we need to be careful about.

Eco day 2025

We have had a brilliant eco day today in school. Thank you for respecting eco day, wearing green and bringing in a donation. As a school, we raised a total of £74.70 for the Rainforest Alliance. This is incredible, so thank you.

In school, Eagles have been collecting data about specific flowers and fauna. Merlins have been gardening and making bird feeders. Kestrels have been making bug hotels and doing leaf art. Little Owls have been litter picking and doing some recycling art.

Thank you to everyone for a brilliant day and look after the environment.

From Owen and Darcy (The Eco-committee)

Autumn Reading Challenge

As a school, we would like to encourage as much reading as possible. We will be monitoring how often your child reads at home and if they read three or more times per week, they will receive a Starbooks stamp on their loyalty card. Once full, they will get to visit the Starbooks Cafe. Please remember to sign their record each time you listen to them.
Reading Challenges
We will also be running regular reading challenges. Please encourage your child to take part to help to create a buzz around books. Our Autumn Challenge is now live.
Thank you for your support and happy reading 🙂
