Friday 26th June

Good evening,

Thank you for all your kind donations for the Lawley Leap – these have really made a difference.

What a hot week we’ve had in Longnor! Although it’s been hot, we’ve made the most of our air conditioned rooms and have enjoyed the shade outside with plenty of outdoor learning. Years two and four are looking forward to their camps tonight and we will, of course, make the most of our lovely, cool hall. We hope that they enjoy their camp with their friends.

We would like to celebrate the following achievers:

  • Little Owls and Tawny Owls – Charlie for fabulous boat making, Evie for neat colouring and Harriet for being confident and settling in well.
  • Kestrels – Hunter for super listening this week and George for being kind when friends are sad.
  • Merlins – Florence and Emily for being fabulous helpers in the hall every day.
  • Eagles – Year 5 for working hard at their assessments and making great progress. Finn, Oscar, Owen, Sammy and Elliott for creating amazing pieces of writing this week.

Our handwriting heroes this week are Tobin and Jacob. Well done to our reading raffle winners this week: Boyd, Althea, Alfred, Ozzy, Darcy and Isaac.

We all hope that you have a safe and cool weekend!

Mrs L. Edgerton

Little Owls author visit

Little Owls and Yr 1 Kestrels were very lucky to have a special visitor on Thursday; Zoe Tipton, Mrs Russell’s cousin and local author came in and shared her wonderful new book, Dibble Dabble Wood with the children and left them with a lovely colouring activity to complete.

Lawley Leap

The countdown is on for our exciting Lawley Leap event taking place on Sunday 5th July!

Whether you’re planning to run, jog, walk, or simply come along to cheer on friends and family, this promises to be a fantastic community event filled with fun, fitness and school spirit.

🎟️ Tickets are still available – but don’t wait too long! Every ticket purchased helps support our school and ensures that this year’s Lawley Leap is our biggest and best yet.

Sports Day

Next Wednesday 1st July is our annual sports day.

The event will begin at 9.10am and will last for approximately 2 hours . Pupils will take part in a variety of team and individual races and activities.

Pupils will compete for one of the four school houses and we would like them to wear a t-shirt of the corresponding colour for the day.

House Colour

Caradoc – Red

Lawley – Green

Mynd – Yellow

Ragleth – Blue

Pupils have been told of their individual houses, and colours and house lists have been placed on the relevant Seesaw / tapestry pages.

Pupils can wear their PE kit with coloured shirt to school for the day. They may wish to pack a spare t-shirt in case they get too hot and sweaty in the morning!

Pupils will also require a drinks bottle, hat and sunscreen.

Free school meal entitlement is changing

There are imminent changes to the free school meal entitlement. This means that more families will be eligible. Please have a look at the attached details and apply online via the Shropshire Synergy Website from the 24th June.

The universal free school meals entitlement has not changed: Children in reception, year 1 and year 2 will continue to be entitled to free meals, regardless of the earnings or benefit status of their households, under the UIFSM programme.

Families are still encouraged to apply for benefits-based free school meals
because if they are eligible for Targeted FSM, they could attract additional funding for
school and they will also be able to access the other support linked to Targeted FSM,
such as the HAF programme.

Summer Fete

All children have brought home a letter in their last week with details of the Home Section competitions for this year’s Summer Fete & Lawley Leap.

Entries should be brought to the School Hall by 9am on the morning of the Lawley Leap.

(If you are not taking part in the Leap, please bring entries between 8.15 and 9am)

Entry is £1 per category.

🪙 A gentle reminder to bring some cash and plenty of change to the Summer Fete. We will have a card machine available, but bringing cash will help us keep queues short and ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities.
