Friday 3rd October
Good evening,
Thank you to everyone who managed to join us for the Harvest Festival this afternoon. We love singing the autumnal songs and doing the actions! Thank you also for your donations: I will deliver those to the Food Bank on behalf of the School Council.
We have had a great week at the cross country this week as Eagle Class headed to Church Stretton for their races. Everyone that ran, worked hard and should be very proud of themselves. We had a number finish in the top ten: Darcy, Etienne, Richard, Max, Frankie, Ella, Ava and Jack. Well done to the whole team.
Also, this week, we had the year three and four football competition. Ms Yates and I were really impressed by the sportsmanship and the support that they gave each other. Well done to the boys who came joint third and the girls who finished fourth. Both teams will progress to the South Shropshire Finals which will be held later in the year. Please remember that there is a football club run by Mr Helliker on a Thursday after school. It would be great to build on the success of these tournaments.
This week, in achievers, congratulations go to:
- Evie for working hard in phonics.
- Isla for being confident and singing beautifully.
- Owen for trying new Spanish words.
- Ellie for her excellent maths work.
- Meriam and Betsy for working hard in Spanish.
- Ella and Safiya for their hard work in Spanish.
- Ava for fantastic determination in cross country.
We also have these Handwriting Heroes this week:
Thank you again for joining us today. Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs L. Edgerton

Absence
Please telephone or email the school office before 9am to notify us if your child is unwell and will not be at school.
Many thanks for your support.
Parking
We have had a number of complaints recently about parking in the school vicinity. We would like to remind you of the general rules around parking near schools. Rule 243 of The Highway Code states: DO NOT stop or park near a school entrance. We remind parents that the lay-by in front of the school is for buses only and must not be used for drop off and pick up between 8.25am and 9.00am, or 3.00pm and 3.30pm – even if the buses have already gone. Parked cars in this area make road crossing dangerous for parents and children who are forced to cross between multiple cars, many of which are moving. No vehicle should ever stop or park on the zig zag lines around the school entrance, including the grassy area at the end of the fence or on the no parking area in front of the bins.
Likewise, the pavements opposite school must not be used for drop off, waiting or parking. Opposite the school is a residential home for adults with learning difficulties and access is needed all day. Parking on the pavement makes it extremely dangerous for the residents, some of whom are visually impaired and in wheelchairs. We ask that all parents park in the village hall car park or further down the road and walk the short distance to school. Our school is a part of Longnor community and it is very important that we treat our neighbours with respect.
We are grateful for your support in keeping our children and community safe.
Halloween Disco
Tickets are now available on Parent Pay!

Message from the Halloween Disco Committee
There has been some confusion on whether nursery children are invited to the KS1 disco this year.
Unfortunately, due to the number of parents that have to be present to take care of their children, the decision was made that nursery children will not be invited to this disco.
We are really sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
If any KS1 children would like their parents to attend the disco with them, we are politely asking the parents to volunteer themselves to help on the night.
Please remember, if your child needs to leave the disco early for any reason, to ensure you tell Mrs Edgerton or Jess Waller before you leave so they can tick them off the list.
Mask Making Competition
£1 per entry with a prize for each year group winner. Children will receive a template in school on Monday 20th October to bring home. Please could masks come into school for the morning of Thursday 23rd October. We look forward to seeing all of your creative designs!

Next School Circle meeting
The next meeting is planned for Wednesday 8th October at 7:45 pm at The Pound Inn, Leebotwood. Please join us if you are able – it’s great to share ideas from everyone. If you’d like to be added to the School Circle Whats App group to receive updates about meetings and events, please let us know!
Open Day

SOUL Team – Online Safety
Our SOUL team have surveyed school and asked key questions about their online use. One of the things that they have highlighted is the amount of screen time that everyone seems to be having. Ella has created a poster addressing this:
