Friday 10th May
Good evening
We have had a lovely sunny week in school.
This week Little Owls enjoyed a visit from a firefighter. The children wrote and asked a lot of questions and even got to try on the firefighting kit! They’ve also been busy planting pots and getting the gardens ready for their seedlings to be planted out when they’re ready. Thank you for your generous donations of plants and seeds.

For one of our assemblies this week, the whole school walked over to the Church, where we enjoyed lots of singing. It was wonderful to see Little Owls being walked over and looked after by our responsible Eagles.
We are looking forward to the upcoming Duck Race on Sunday 19th May and hope to see you all there.
Enjoy your weekend.

Year six
To year six,
We are all incredibly proud of you. Your primary school years have definitely been an interesting journey, with the Covid pandemic and all schools being shut! With that in mind, we are overwhelmed with your resilience and focus especially over the past year.
Next week, you have your SATs. You have all worked incredibly hard and we know that you will do your best. Remember though, SATs are only papers, they do not share how amazing you are at dance, football, athletics, swimming, drama, drawing and much, much more.
This weekend make sure that you enjoy the sunshine and get plenty of sleep. We’ll see you on Monday morning at the normal time (early morning maths has finished now).

Safer Schools
Safer School initiative
The Safer School initiative is a school security initiative that encompasses personal safety. It was created by West Mercia Police and with the support of Shropshire Council, virtually all Shropshire schools are following the process.
The initiative is a practical and realistic risk management approach to the security/safety of school staff, pupils, property and the premises. Following the satisfactory completion of the process, schools receive the Safer School accreditation, and this accreditation is reviewed every two years. No two schools are the same and therefore, it is site specific to individual schools. The process involves a Safer School meeting, with representatives of the school following a comprehensive package. Safer School meetings are held annually, and parents/carers are informed of progress through newsletters.
The essential elements of the package are as follows: –
1. Implement basic security measures applicable at all schools i.e. property marking, and visitor passes etc.
2. Consider pro-active security/safety measures for the site/building and protecting assets.
3. Establish a procedure for recording incidents i.e. anti social behaviour, vandalism etc. Any recorded information can then be analysed. In addition, the same recording procedure can be used for surveying a problem i.e. an unauthorised thoroughfare.
4. If there are any projects to be undertaken, they are prioritised. Following the implementation of a project, the success of it is reviewed.
5. PSHE or education of pupils as per the Safer School pack.
As part of the process, the school would appreciate your views. Please could you complete the attached survey and forward any particular views/concerns, including any positive observations. These will be reviewed at a forthcoming Safer School meeting. The focus of the survey is the school grounds/site. If any parents/carers are interested to view the Safer School package, they are welcome to visit the school.

Please keep collecting items for our Bags2School collection next week.
We will collect items at school drop off and pick up on Thursday 16th May, and at drop off time on Fri 17th May. Please do not bring items to school on Friday afternoon as that will be too late – they are collecting from us Friday morning.
The collection point will be in the village hall car park but if you can’t get your items to us by 17th, please let School Circle know via the office and we may be able to arrange to collect.
Please see the link below for the full list of items that are accepted which includes clothes, paired shoes, hats, gloves, bags, bedding, curtains, scarves and more.

Threadworms
We have been informed that we have a case of threadworms in school. Because of this, we are following guidance and increasing hand washing, ensuring all food is washed thoroughly before eating and making sure that key surfaces are thoroughly cleaned. Should you find that your child has an infection, please follow guidance and treat immediately. Please inform the school office as soon as possible so we can help manage the infection. There is no need to keep your child(ren) home from school.
