Friday 12th January
Good evening,
Without you all, we would not have managed to achieve ‘Outstanding’ as our Ofsted rating. Because we recognise the importance of all within Longnor community, we would like our school vision to reflect the teamwork, support and value of everyone. Therefore, we have launched our new ‘tweaked’ vision:
“Together, we inspire a lifelong love of learning.”
During assembly, the whole school discussed what the word ‘together’ means at Longnor school. Here are a few points that the children mentioned:
- We support each other in a team.
- We lead clubs and activities so that we can learn from each other.
- We show care, compassion and kindness.
- We trust in each other.
- We show friendship like a family or a community.
They had some lovely thoughts.
As adults with help from Reverend Laura, we met last half term and thought about the theology that sits behind our new vision. “As a school, supported by members of the church and parish, we aspire to succeed together. We aim to deliver the highest quality of education for our pupils within a safe and stimulating environment, which empowers pupils to maximise their potential to become lifelong learners.” To read further reasoning behind our vision and the Christian theology, I would like to refer you to our school website: Christian Values – Longnor CE Primary School (longnorschool.org.uk)
Thank you all for being a valued member of Longnor school community and congratulations to you all for our fabulous report.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs L. Edgerton
P.S. We will be in the Shropshire Star over the weekend – I believe it is online already, so will probably be in tomorrow’s edition.
Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon
This year we are hoping to participate in the Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon. We would love for as many Longnor children as possible to take part in this fun and rewarding event.
The Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon gives children aged 4-11 the chance to complete their very own cumulative Half Marathon in a supportive, non-competitive environment. With a Half Marathon representing 13.1 miles, the challenge sees children complete the first 12 miles at school over the course of a term or half term, 1 mile at a time, before running the final 1.1 miles on event day in front of family and friends. The children are treated to a dedicated “full race” experience including race bibs, a marshalled route, music and a start and finish line gantry, allowing them to enjoy and experience the thrill of a big sporting event and to be cheered on as they complete the final leg of their challenge. They receive rewards as they progress through their mileage including a fantastic medal and t-shirt for their efforts. The event is licenced by England Athletics to ensure standards are that which would be expected for any Adults Half Marathon.
The final 1.1 mile event will take place on Saturday April 20th at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury. Parents will be responsible for taking their child(ren) to and from this event. Mrs Edgerton and Mr Helliker will also be there to greet you and cheer on the children.
The cost of participating in this event is £12 which includes rewards for each stage of the journey:
- After completion of mile 1: Colour my miles trainers chart.
- After completion of mile 6: Reward wristband.
- After completion of mile 12: Technical running t- shirt and bib number for race day.
- After mile 13.1 (Race Day) Finishers medal.
If you wish your child to be registered for this event, please give payment and consent on ParentPay by 30th January 2024. Thank you.

End of day
At the end of the day, outside by the ship, it gets quite busy. Some children have been playing tag around this area. We are worried that this might end in an injury especially on the ship. Please could you encourage children to avoid playing outside when it is really busy.
Thank you.
Lunch time clubs
We are starting our new term of lunch time clubs next week. Leaders have planned six weeks of activities. They are all excited to lead these and share their talents:
School library
Our librarians, with support from Ms Reece, are opening the library for children at break time. They are allowed to borrow a book for a couple of weeks and take it home. We hope they enjoy having the option to read a non-fiction text.
New school meal option
From Monday 15th January we will be offering a cold lunch alongside our usual hot lunch. The cost will be the same as a standard hot school dinner.
The lunch will consists of:
- a ham or cheese sandwich;
- a salad pot;
- a cold dessert or cheese and crackers;
- a piece of fruit.
Children can choose on the day whether they would prefer a hot or cold lunch. Please note, on Monday 15th we will only have cheese sandwiches available.
