Friday 15th September

We have had a brilliant week in school. Thank you to all that managed to join us for the ‘meet the teacher’ meetings. It was really valuable sharing key information. Please keep checking Seesaw/Tapestry and the school website for information about teaching and learning as we try to regularly update these pages: click here.

Today, we have had our first reading raffle. There were lots of tickets in the pots, meaning lots of reading has been shared through school and at home, so well done Longnor. Well done to Elsie and George for winning the books this week:

  • Reading records will be checked every Friday and if they’ve read at home 3 times they’ll get a ticket, 4 times then 2 tickets and 5 times they’ll get 3 tickets.
  • A winner will be drawn from EYFS/KS1 and KS2 every Friday afternoon.

Please take time to share books and fill in their reading records.

We’ve also had Shrewsbury Bookfest invite year five and six to be part of the shortlisting for this year’s award. The group of eight have read loads this week and are sharing their thoughts about these texts in a mature manner. Watch this space as we start to share our thoughts about these brand new books.

Please help yourself to free books on the bookshelf outside. These are for all children to take home if they’d like. We have had a sort through the books in school and would like to offer these to home.

So, for now, I hope you have a lovely weekend and happy reading!

Kestrel Class cross country

We have had a brilliant afternoon running in Cardingmill valley. Every member of the class ran the whole race and did really well. We are proud of every person. Extra congratulations go to Rohan, Charlie J, Molly and Sean who finished in the top three for their races. Well done everyone.

Merlin class – there is an event for you coming up. Watch this space!

Assemblies this week

This week, in assemblies, we have thought about the value of respect and who we respect in our local community. We looked at a range of jobs and how we should respect every member as everyone is important and deserves that respect.

We also looked at the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah and found out about how significant it is as a new year festival and about how people think about New Year’s resolutions. We also tried apple with honey as these signify the sweetness that we are thankful for in our lives.

Parent Governor Nominations

Please find attached the letter about parent governor nominations.

The Constitution of the School’s Governing Body allows for the appointment of three parent governors.

These appointments are made by election.  The number of vacancies to be filled on this occasion is one. Please fill in the attached letter and return to school by Friday 22nd September.

Many thanks.

School Circle AGM – next Thursday

School Circle (Longnor School’s PTA) will be holding the annual AGM on the afternoon of Thursday 21st September at 3.30pm.

All parents and carers are automatically members of School Circle whilst your child is at Longnor, so why not come along to find out more and see how you can get involved whilst meeting other Longnor families.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Request for a Treasurer

School Circle are looking for a new Treasurer as Richard Hall, current Treasurer, is stepping down this year after very kindly undertaking the role since 2017.

Richard has shared a few words about the role below:

“It is a commitment but if you can ‘add up’ and have a basic understanding of a spreadsheet it is not difficult.  Principally the role is: make sure events have floats, bank the cash, prepare a basic report of how much money is raised.  If anyone has any questions I’m happy to have a chat.”

If you think you could support School Circle with this role, please get in touch with Richard for a chat via the School Circle Whats App group or leave your details with the school office and he’ll be in touch.  Many thanks.

Found teddy bear

A Longnor resident found this lovely brown Brittany Ferries teddy bear in the village this week. If he is yours, please come to the school office to claim him. Thank you.

Return of forms

Just a little reminder to return the forms that were sent home on the first day of school. It is really important that we have these returned to us so that we can update our records.

Thank you.
