Friday 17th October
Good evening,
This week we have really been impressed by the mature leadership skills developing in school. It is fantastic to see the assembly leaders grow in confidence when stood in front of the school and club leaders thrive when challenging their friends to do new and different tasks. In particular, the sports leaders attended CSS for their bronze ambassador training with Mrs Dillon. She was very impressed at how responsible the team were. We are excited to have them lead tournaments and activities for the whole school as they begin their leadership work with Mr Helliker.
We’d like to celebrate with the following achievers this week:
- Ivy for a great attitude towards learning and for settling in so well.
- Tobin for excellent focus in phonics.
- Boyd for his excellent approach to learning.
- Floss for a fantastic piece of writing this week.
- Toby E for his impeccable manners.
- Adelaide for her never give up attitude in PE.
- Sean for always supporting others in PE.
- Oscar for standing out as a mature leader at the bronze ambassador training.
- Isaac for a huge improvement in maths independence.
Our handwriting heroes this week are Oliver, Matilda, Arthur W, Etienne and Jess.
We hope that you all have a lovely weekend.
Mrs L. Edgerton
P.S. Please remember it is a PD day next Friday (24th October).

Illness in school
We have had a small number of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting in school today. Please be vigilant, encourage handwashing and be mindful of our 48 hour rule in order to minimise spread. Thank you for your support.
Head lice
Our ‘little friends’ are back! Please could you check your child’s hair as we have had a few cases in school. If your child has long hair it may be advisable to tie it back when at school.
The advice form the school nurse is to use conditioner and a special metal comb. Every 3rd day cover the head in conditioner and comb the hair paying particular attention to the crown, behind the ears and the nape of the neck. Rinse with fresh water. This should be repeated every 3rd day for 2 weeks then once a week.
Eco-committee
Our Eco-committee would like to have an Eco-day before half term:

Autumn Reading Challenge
As a school, we would like to encourage as much reading as possible. We will be monitoring how often your child reads at home and if they read three or more times per week, they will receive a Starbooks stamp on their loyalty card. Once full, they will get to visit the Starbooks Cafe. Please remember to sign their record each time you listen to them.
Reading Challenges
We will also be running regular reading challenges. Please encourage your child to take part to help to create a buzz around books. Our Autumn Challenge is now live.
Thank you for your support and happy reading 🙂

Parking
We have had a number of complaints recently about parking in the school vicinity. We would like to remind you of the general rules around parking near schools. Rule 243 of The Highway Code states: DO NOT stop or park near a school entrance. We remind parents that the lay-by in front of the school is for buses only and must not be used for drop off and pick up between 8.25am and 9.00am, or 3.00pm and 3.30pm – even if the buses have already gone. Parked cars in this area make road crossing dangerous for parents and children who are forced to cross between multiple cars, many of which are moving. No vehicle should ever stop or park on the zig zag lines around the school entrance, including the grassy area at the end of the fence or on the no parking area in front of the bins.
Likewise, the pavements opposite school must not be used for drop off, waiting or parking. Opposite the school is a residential home for adults with learning difficulties and access is needed all day. Parking on the pavement makes it extremely dangerous for the residents, some of whom are visually impaired and in wheelchairs. We ask that all parents park in the village hall car park or further down the road and walk the short distance to school. Our school is a part of Longnor community and it is very important that we treat our neighbours with respect.
We are grateful for your support in keeping our children and community safe.
