Friday 21st October

What a fantastic end to a very busy half term!

Thank you to all that managed to come into school on Wednesday evening to share work and chat with teachers. It was lovely to see the children sharing their progress and being proud of their work.

It was also lovely to welcome you all for our Harvest Festival yesterday. Having St. Mary’s church full and having an opportunity to celebrate together was wonderful. Well done to all the children and teachers for all the hard work in preparing for the service. It was lovely to see them all contributing through singing and sharing their work. Well done, Longnor School.

What a great night the Halloween disco was to finish the half term with! Thank you to all from the School Circle who volunteered to organise the evening jam-packed with fun. A special thanks to Mrs Bell who went above and beyond in preparing the spook-tastic evening with amazing decorations and activities.

I think we all deserve a well-earned break this half term. Enjoy your week and stay safe.

Mrs L. Edgerton

PD day

Just a little reminder that there is a PD day on the 31st of October. We look forward to seeing you on the 1st of November. Have a lovely half term.

New school website

We have a brand new school website which is now live! Please have a look at the class pages as there is lots of information about teaching and learning for the individual classes. You will also find the school newsletter saved in the parent area which you can easily scroll back to previous ones to check for information.

We hope that you like it!

Attendance policy

In order for each and every child to do their best, their attendance in school is essential. We have, in line with DfE recommendations, rewritten our attendance policy. There is one main change that we’d like to make you aware of. If you are running late in the morning and will miss registration (by 9:10am) then you will need to bring your child into the office in order to sign them in. Please see the parent guide for further information:

Parent Survey

Thank you so much to everyone who filled in the parent survey. It has been really useful having your input. We have made the following adjustments to support:

  • Our new school website has class pages which are regularly updated with information about what we are studying in each class and key learning objectives that are to be covered. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to pop in and talk these through.
  • At the end of the autumn and spring term we are going to have a progress card sent home for years 1-6 to update you as to attainment in some the core subjects (reading, writing and maths). Please watch this space at the end of the term.
  • We have made sure that all children’s dietary requirements are supported in night owls.
  • With the economic climate, we are selecting our trips carefully. The cost of a trip is voluntary. We want to reassure you that your child will not miss out should you be unable to contribute.
  • Upon pick up from preschool at lunchtime there will now be a sign and the telephone to directly call into preschool where staff will be able to assist you.

Here is an overview of the survey results: PARENT SURVEY RESULTS OCTOBER 2022

Mrs Jones has an exciting challenge ahead!

This November I will set out on a challenging and life-changing trek, all in the name of checking chests! I am taking on 100km of Morocco’s forbidding Sahara Desert in a bid to raise vital funds towards our life-saving mission. Your donations will not only support my fundraising target, but most importantly CoppaFeel!. They are a charity on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something doesn’t feel normal.

Some of you will remember that in May 2020, I received the news that no 31 year old expects; I had breast cancer. It was fast-growing and aggressive, but we were very lucky to have caught it early. I was breast aware thanks to Kris Hallenga (the founder of CoppaFeel!) and I am so grateful for that. I knew that young women could be diagnosed with breast cancer and went to my GP without hesitation. I now recognise the importance of educating young people for early diagnosis, and that’s why I am raising money for CoppaFeel! The charity raises awareness and even sends texts to remind us to check our bodies for lumps and abnormalities.

I attended every appointment throughout my diagnosis and treatment alone due to the pandemic, so I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of my “cancer journey” than to spend it with a group of wonderfully strong women in the middle of the desert.

Thank you so much for your support.

Mrs Jones

Congratulations Mrs Reynolds

Mrs Reynolds has been with us at Longnor School for the last 4 years so it is with sadness that we announce that she will be leaving us at Christmas. She has supported every class in the organisation of school life and trips. She will be missed. We wish her every success in her new role as School Admissions Manager at Shropshire Council.

ParentPay Arrears

As we are at the end of the academic year, please can you ensure that all ParentPay accounts are brought up to date.

We understand that some families have child care vouchers which we are processing – please bear with us as we get this organised in the office.

Many thanks.

Pastoral policy

We always offer the children of Longnor time to talk when they need a listening ear. Some children would benefit from regular sessions to talk and interventions to boost their self-esteem. Because of this, we have developed a pastoral team and a policy to support those that might need a little extra time. Our team consists of Mrs Hall, Ms Yates and Mrs Edgerton. Please contact the office if you would like further information about this support.

Halloween Disco – thanks

School Circle would like to say a huge thank you for all the help and support we received for our first event of the academic year! The disco was really enjoyed by everyone attending and volunteering (the toffee apples sold out within 30 minutes – thank you Kitty) and we couldn’t have done it without all of the help from both adults and children! So thank you to:
Hollie Batha, Katie Bell, Alexis Brookfield, Jo and Chloe Bullock, Kat Beedles, Jenny Blackhurst, Claire Brown, Alex Croft, Charlotte Downes, Gemma Ireland, Rebecca Plumridge, Richard Hall, Kate Jones, Lynne James, Felicity and Lee Kienstra, Rachel King, Sara and Scarlett Marais, Caroline Marsden, Tom Phoenix, Vicky Regan, Rachel Reynolds, Liz Starkie, Phyllis Rigg, Sally and Mark White, Bethan and Dan Wilson, Mrs Edgerton, Tina and Mo Aljan and of course to the Bell family – Jo, Dougal, Molly and Henry!

Keep an eye on the newsletter for details of our Family Quiz Night, Wreath Making evening and Frost Fair all taking place in the run up to Christmas.

Hope you all have a good rest over the half term and see you all at our next event.
