Friday 24th May

At the end of a long half term, it is time to reflect and celebrate achievements. The summer term is my favourite term as pupils consolidate their learning and really thrive. We also have some fantastic events within our community and especially the duck race last weekend! Thank you to everyone that managed to join us and to Rachel King for going above and beyond again.

We’ve also been lucky this week to have a PJ and popcorn night in school. Thank you to all of the School Circle team who organised this event – our children always enjoy it!

In assemblies this week, we’ve been thinking about our value of friendship and linked it to the Good Samaritan story. We thought about how friendship can be shown to our neighbour. (Some found it tricky to think of a neighbour as someone in the community and not just the family next door.)

We also talked about water safety following the tragedy on the news. Together we listed where we find water locally and talked about the dangers these present. Some were able to think about the water safety they have completed in swimming sessions and shared that if they fall in they should remain calm and float if they cannot get out. We hope that you can continue these conversations at home especially if you are near water over half term.

We all hope that you are able to have a rest over half term, as the summer term seems to be filling up with incredible opportunities already. Have a lovely week and we’ll see you on Monday 3rd June.

All the best,

Mrs L. Edgerton

Rounders Club

After half term, our student teachers Miss Bates and Miss Case will be running a Rounders Club on Tuesday from 3.15-4.30pm for students in Class 3 and 4. The club will be priced at £5. Please book a place on the June end of day arrangements form. If you have already completed your end of day arrangements for June but would like your child to attend, please email the school office. Many thanks.

Punctuality

Please could we remind parents that school begins at 8.35am and that all children should be at their desks by 8.45am for registration. Punctuality ensures a smooth start to the school day for both staff and students. We thank you for your support in ensuring your child’s punctuality.

Photo proofs

We have sent the photo proofs with QR codes home with the children today. Please note, the deadline for ordering photos for delivery to school is 8th June 2024. If your child is in Year 6 you will receive both whole class and individual photo proofs. Please use the following link and enter your personal access code which can be found on the proof slip.

NSPCC Pants resources

Kestrel class have been listening to the story from the NSPCC website and using the pants resources. It would be really valuable if you could continue these discussions at home as the messages are really important.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy Team have enhanced their sensory information.

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust have recently developed their universal support for sensory processing difficulties . The  children’s OT team have developed a video called ‘Introduction to Sensory Processing’. This video may be helpful some parents/carers.

When you access the above page, you can watch the video and there is an offer of further support through a live webinar with the Children’s Occupational Therapy team. Instructions are given on how to book onto a live webinar with should this be required.  The live webinar is only open to Telford and Shropshire based families.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy telephone advice  line remains  open as before – however, it is advice that parents wishing to find out more about sensory processing access the sensory video in the first instance.

Access to school site over the half term

I have now changed the code to the side gate to 12345 should anyone wish to access the grounds over the half term. I know it is a valuable and safe space to use where children can play over the break. Should you notice anything damaged or concerning, please let us know via admin@longnorschool.co.uk
