Friday 27th September
Good evening,
What a lovely Harvest Festival we’ve had in school. Thank you to all that managed to donate something for Church Stretton Foodbank: I know that they will all be very thankful for your gifts.
Thank you to our assembly leaders for standing and leading this afternoon’s service and for all children that shared their work.
Also, a huge thank you to those that came to our School Circle AGM. Without you, we would not have the fabulous events that you organise through the year and, of course, the donations that you make to school fund. This year this has paid for the new interactive whiteboard in the study and is used everyday for night owls and our Little Owls’ teaching and learning. For this, we are truly thankful.
Well done to merlin class for their achievements at the cross country on Thursday afternoon. Everyone did really well, especially those that finished in the top 10. We apologise for delay in buses at the end of the day. The organisers have expressed their apologies and for next week have brought forward the event so this doesn’t happen again.
Have a lovely weekend.

Dance club / lessons
A message from Mrs Rebekah Reynolds regarding dance club / lessons:
Hi, everyone! I’m really looking forward to introducing dance lessons after school at Longnor, starting with ballet classes commencing later this term.
These classes are very much focused on cultivating a love of dance and combine learning technical skills with giving students plenty of opportunities to develop their creativity.
They will primarily follow the ISTD Cecchetti Ballet syllabus which is practised worldwide and has been newly revised this year.
Graded exams can be offered for students that wish to pursue them but there is no pressure to participate in these.
Please feel free to get in touch or send me a message if you have any questions about the classes or if your child might be interested and you want to know more.
Year 6 Lego Club at Concord College
To parents of Year 6 budding engineers/coders/scientists … I am a science teacher at nearby Concord College and, as we are in the fortunate position to have a number of Spike Prime Lego robotics kits, we are running an in house weekly Lego club for local pupils. If you are able to get a small team (2-4) together and provide transport to Concord each Tuesday then they can compete in this year’s FLL (First Lego League) Challenge. https://education.theiet.org/first-lego-league-programmes/challenge/
We will aim to meet from 3:30 – 5pm every Tuesday of term time October – March. If you would like to register interest or if have any questions, then please email me at M.Weston@concordcollege.org.uk. Mark
Bingo event – 7th November 2024
Please join us for a fun evening of Bingo to raise funds for Little Owls.
If you are able to donate a prize for this event we would be very grateful. Thank you.
Young Voices
Just a reminder to check your ParentPay account for the Young Voices payment and consent requests.
There are separate payment requests for the children’s bus, the t-shirts and audience tickets. You will only have payment requests for T-shirts and tickets if you have ordered them through the school office.
The deadline for all payments is 30th September.
If your child is not going to be attending Young Voices and you have not already let us know, please email or pop into the office.
Many thanks.
P.E. Kit
Please can we remind parents that P.E. kit should be brought to school every Monday, left in school and then taken home every Friday. Your child’s PE kit should include:
A plain blue or white T-shirt
Blue or black shorts
Socks
A suitable top (track suit or spare school sweat shirt) for warming up
A pair of trainers (giving good grip and support)
We insist that watches are taken off for P.E. and games lessons. If children have pierced ears, then studs should be removed for all P.E. activities.
Thank you for your support.
Bikeability
Well done to our Year 6 students who braved the rain this week to complete their Bikeability training.
School Circle AGM Report
As I step down as chair of School Circle, I would like to take a moment to reflect on our journey together and share some important information to ensure a smooth transition.
Sue Bryant has kindly stepped up to take on Chair of School Circle and will be supported by Alexis Brookfield and Zara Wrisdale as joint Secretaries, Mrs Stekic and Alison Jordan remain in their roles as joint Treasurers.
Firstly, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your support, dedication, and involvement over the past 2 years. Together, we’ve accomplished so much—from organising successful Fetes to Duck Races, to enhancing our school with things that we couldn’t have afforded without the generosity of the community . It has truly been a privilege to work alongside such passionate members of Longnor School.
This year has been both rewarding and challenging for our PTA. We’ve had several successful events that fostered community spirit, but we also faced significant difficulties, particularly in fundraising and volunteer participation, as well as dramatically rising costs of goods which have affected our profit margins. The turn out for both discos this past year however has been incredible so please keep this up! The school has exciting plans for the money due to be donated from the year’s fundraising so please keep an eye out for more details.
As I pass the baton to Sue, I want to highlight the upcoming events:
Upcoming Events:
Pumpkin Carving Competition – Wednesday 23rd October, please bring your carved/decorated pumpkin into school in the morning.
Halloween Disco – Thursday 24th October, tickets are now available on ParentPay.
Frost Fayre – Friday 6th December.
Mince Pies and Mingle after the school Carol Service – Friday 20th December.
Corporate Fundraising/Sponsorship:
If you work for a large company please look into your company’s policies on supported fundraising, many companies have schemes in which they will support or match charitable donations of their employees in a community project. We very kindly had a large donation from the NFU one year which meant we were able to purchase 20+ chrome books for school, your company’s scheme may enable us to do more.
I encourage everyone to continue supporting Sue and the new committee members. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference in our children’s education and our school community.
Thank you once again for the wonderful memories and achievements we’ve shared, as well as the beautiful roses gifted to me from School Circle. I am excited to see how the PTA continues to grow and thrive under new leadership.
Very best wishes
Tina Aljan

Wrekin Maths Challenge
Well done to four of our Year 6 pupils that took part in the Wrekin Maths challenge today.
