Friday 7th June
Good evening,
In school assemblies this week, we have thought about our new value of respect. To begin we have thought about who we respect and have looked at the lines in this poem, thinking about which lines are important to us:
- Readiness to listen
- Everyone being valued
- Showing appreciation
- Praying for people
- Expressing opinions sensitively
- Caring for our environment
- Treating property carefully
We also had an assembly on D Day and the anniversary of this day. Our school were very respectful and recognised how important it is to be thankful for the peaceful lives that we have today.
We also had our Safer Schools review. Here is a message from Ian Bartlett who led the review:
“Another excellent Safer School meeting at Longnor C. E. Primary School. Safer Schools is a safeguarding, security and safety initiative and as part of the holistic approach, an important aspect is listening to the views of parents/carers and pupils. As previously, Mrs Edgerton had carried out a Safer School survey prior to the meeting. The feedback from this survey was reassuring, informative and useful but overwhelmingly, it was good. Using this information, it will form part of an action plan and it will be reviewed at the next Safer School meeting, already planned for Summer 2025.
At the meeting, we reviewed security/safety and the improvements made since the meeting in 2023. In addition, we reflected on any issues/concerns and planned for the future. It was reassuring to hear that there had been no recorded incidents of security on the school site in the past 12 months. Excellent news.
An updated Safer School certificate was presented to the school in recognition of the school’s responsible approach to security, safety and safeguarding – Congratulations!”
Please continue to use the school site at weekends and in holidays as it is a safe space for children to play; however, please report to the school office should you notice any damage or anything of concern.
Many thanks and we hope that you have a lovely weekend.
Mrs L. Edgerton
School Circle Thanks
School Circle would like to thank the following people for their contributions to the Easter Disco, Duck Race and Movie Night held this year. Without these volunteers none of the events would be such a success and raise such an incredible amount of money which will go directly to benefit the school at the end of the academic year. So thank you again to:
Alex Croft, Ben & Tom McMillian, Jenny Blackhurst, Vicky Reagan, Emily and Marko Stekic, Abby Smale, Jess Waller, Zara and Matt Wrisdale, Katie and Tom Phoenix and family, Claire and Stuart Brown and family, Sara and Charl Marais and family, Alison Jordan, Cherie Wilkes, Clare Baxter, Sally White, Beckie Cornes, Lizzie Starkie and family, Andy and Amanda Evans, Katherine Tan, Daria Shavkova, Sue and Craig Bryant, Hannah Higgins, Anna Morris, Charlotte Downes, Mrs Lewis, Mr Helliker, and Mrs Edgerton and family.
Also a special thank you to Rachel King and family who have organised and run our beloved Duck Race for the past few years with this year being her last. It’s a mammoth task and Rachel’s shoes will be very hard to fill next year, however if you are up for it…watch this space!
Road Closure
We have been informed by Shropshire Highways that they will be carrying out bridge repair work on Longnor Bridge from Monday 10th June to Thursday 13th June between the hours of 9.30am and 2.45pm. There will be a diversion in place via Leebotwood during these hours.
Summer Fete 2024
It is that time of year again and with over a month to go, we are getting ready to organise the Longnor School Summer Fete which will be held on Sunday 14th July. With hopes that it will be a bigger and better event building on from last year, we do need help from parents, children and the wider Longnor School community members.
So far we have the following stalls/games planned for the fete:
Refreshments, BBQ, tuck stall, plant stall, teddy tombola stall, jolly jam jars stall, stocks game, splat the rat game, boat racing game, preloved uniforms stall, glitter tattoos stall, inflatables, raffles and a home section competition. We also have planned entertainment for the day from a local band and performances by the children.
To ensure that the day is a success, you help with any of the following?
- Volunteering on the day – we are asking for volunteers on a rotation basis to cover a stall or game for an hour only, older children are also very welcome to man a games stall
- Helping with the set up and take down
- Donating items for the raffle – we are running a general raffle which has always been very generously supported with gifts and prizes, a ‘Barrow of Booze’ raffle and a Teddy Tombola
- Making and donating Jolly Jam Jars
- Making cakes/bakes to donate for the refreshment stall
- Suggest and/or take on a new stall
- Manning the BBQ for an hour
If you are able to, please leave a message on the School Circle Whatsapp group with your availability or preference, a sign up sheet will be shared on there, as well as a copy left in reception if you are not on the WhatsApp group.
Thank you in advance for all your support with this, it is our last big School Circle event of the academic year and we would love to go all out hosting this event where we can celebrate the hard work that the children, staff, parents and wider Longnor school community have done in this year as well as encourage new parents to participate with School Circle.
Crucial Crew
Just a reminder that the bus to Crucial Crew will be leaving school at 8.45am, please ensure your child is in school on time. Thank you.
