Friday 8th September
Welcome back!
It has been lovely seeing everyone back in school and ready for a fantastic year ahead. The sun has been shining and all have been outside enjoying the fresh air and learning outside.
We have all been thinking about challenges and goals that we would like to achieve this year with our new teachers. All at Longnor have settled really quickly to the new routine – thank you to all for adapting to the earlier start. Don’t forget to look at the school website (class pages) to see our learning and timetables: click here.
All children from years 1-6 have been given Seesaw logins, allergy and permission forms. Please take time to check details and return these to school so that we have up-to-date information. Should you need another copy, please let us know.
We would like to invite you to a meeting next week to meet class teachers (please see the post below). They will update you with information that will be useful for the year ahead. It will also be a good opportunity to ask questions or share anything that would be useful for the teacher to know. This year, we hope to invite you into school to see our work more and aim to complete some workshops alongside your child: we hope you can join us.
If you would like to help out by listening to readers or coming on a school trip with us, then please speak to the office to complete a DBS. We would be delighted to have your support and work with you.
Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the sunshine and stay safe.
Mrs L. Edgerton
Safeguarding
Should you ever have any concerns about safeguarding or child protection, then please do not hesitate in contacting school. You can speak to any member of staff, but in particular:
- Mrs Edgerton (designated safeguarding lead)
- Mrs Jones (deputy safeguarding lead)
- Mr Helliker (deputy safeguarding lead)
Meet the teacher meetings
Class teachers would like to invite you to a meeting next week to talk about the year ahead:
- Kestrel class – Ms Mullock – Wednesday 13th September at 3:30pm
- Merlin class – Mr Helliker – Thursday 14th September at 3:30pm
- Eagle class – Mrs Lewis – Monday 11th September at 3:30pm
Assemblies this week
We have been thinking about making sure all are welcome and showing our school values of love, hope, joy and trust as we begin our school year.
Respect in a democracy:
We are all thankful that we live in a democracy (a British Value). As a school, we have made some decisions about equipment at break time, sharing our thoughts and opinions followed by a vote. We have also thought about how we can work together to show respect by looking after our belongings.

If you would like a free PE bag so that children can look after their belongings, then please contact the school office.
E-safety updates
Thank you so much to those of you who have signed and returned the ‘Acceptable Use Policy’ (AUP) that went home on Wednesday. Every child, member of staff, governor and parent signs the AUP to ensure that we all have consistent messages to our youngsters about the importance of staying safe online.
Here’s a weekly poster that I will send out in each newsletter to help prompt conversations and support all to be safe:

Hot temperatures
As the temperature looks to stay hot this week, please remember to dress and prepare for the weather, including:
- Packing a water bottle. Some children like to freeze a bottle of water the night before and then it will defrost nicely through the day.
- A sun hat for break times.
- Sun screen put on in the morning before school please.
Thank you!

School Circle AGM
School Circle (Longnor School’s PTA) will be holding the annual AGM on the afternoon of Thursday 21st September at 3.30pm.
All parents and carers are automatically members of School Circle whilst your child is at Longnor, so why not coming along to find out more and see how you can get involved whilst meeting other Longnor families.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Request for School Circle Treasurer
School Circle are looking for a new Treasurer as Richard Hall, current Treasurer, is stepping down this year after very kindly undertaking the role since 2017.
Richard has shared a few words about the role below:
“It is a commitment but if you can ‘add up’ and have a basic understanding of a spreadsheet it is not difficult. Principally the role is: make sure events have floats, bank the cash, prepare a basic report of how much money is raised. If anyone has any questions I’m happy to have a chat.”
If you think you could support School Circle with this role, please get in touch with Richard for a chat via the School Circle Whats App group or leave your details with the school office and he’ll be in touch. Many thanks.
