The Mysterious Journey of the Remote Control

“Top Gear is about start!” exclaimed Toby excitedly. He’d been waiting all week for the latest instalment of his favourite programme. “Where’s the remote?” he asked, “I can’t find it. Who had it last?”

“It wasn’t me,” replied his sister, Lucy. Checking his watch, Toby started to frantically throw the cushions off the sofa until the lovely, cosy room was a tip. “I’m gonna miss the opening-that’s the best bit!” He was beginning to raise his voice. “Lucy! What have you done with it?”.

I listened to the argument as I found myself in a strange place. Everywhere I looked, I could see odd socks and hair bobbles. Where was I? How had I got here? I was in a world of missing things. Hang on a minute, I’m missing. Well, at least I’ll have a break from my buttons being pressed so hard.

Suddenly, some car keys came flying through the air and crash landed in a nest of thin, blue hair bobbles (they were for a VW, attached to a fluorescent pink, fluffy pompom, so I guessed they belonged to a hippy girl).

It was then that I remembered all the times that I heard people shouting, “Where are my car keys, where are my hair bobbles?” Swiftly, I saw out of the corner of my eyes, socks soaring through the air and never coming back. Maybe they were returning into the normal world again? I needed a plan. I had to get home or Toby would never get to watch Top Gear again; Lucy wouldn’t see My Little Pony, Mum, who shouts very loudly when she’s angry, wouldn’t get to see Coronation Street again and Dad would miss Match of the Day!

Next time I see something about to fly up into the air, I’ll hook myself onto it and hopefully land in the house.

After a while, I saw a pair of stripy, blue and purple socks wriggling about, so I hobbled over to it and hopped in. There was a hole in the bottom from the owner’s large toe; it smelt of rotten eggs. I was vibrating so much, I almost bounced out of it whilst the sock prepared to take off.

Eventually, the sock started to float. All of a sudden, we were soaring through the air like an invisible force pulling… This journey began to feel like days! But actually, it was only a couple of minutes. I was so high up I could see everything that was lost. I had no idea where I was or where I was heading.

Finally, I was in the house, on the coffee table. “I’ve found it! Toby you’re such a rubbish looker! It was here all along.” shouted Lucy

“No it wasn’t! I looked there.” Yelled Toby. He grabbed me and jumped on the sofa, covered himself in a soft, grey blanket and switched the TV on.

“Toby, dinners ready.” Mum called.

“Ahhhhhhhh!” sighed Toby.
